Hello, Ambre and Amanda! I loved today's podcast; thank you so much for sharing with us such wonderful books! I now have a few of them on hold with my library. : ) Being a Mandarin linguist, I am able to provide some insight into correctly pronouncing Kat Zhang's surname -- in Mandarin, the letter a makes the 'ah' sound. Also, for Zhang Heng, in Mandarin, the letter e makes the 'uh' sound. I hope that helps. : )
That helps so much! Thank you for taking the time to educate me! I had meant to research it before we recorded and I'm sure you can see the "oh, crud" on my face when I had to say it the first time knowing there were two more failures on their way before I would be done! (sigh)
'Tis better to read and share a wonderful author's work even when unsure as to how to pronounce her name than to not share it for fear of mispronunciation. To that end, I have so much love for your willingness to share with us your authentic self, and so your "Oh, crud!" expressions are always warmly embraced by us in my household. (And you always speak from a place of respect and care, Ambre, and mistakes are just practice towards self-growth, anyway.) It takes a world to raise ourselves and our children well, and your book selections are so often such worthy reminders of this truth. : )
