I love this list! It included several favorites of mine, both from childhood and adulthood. I love how classics can transcend age and time!

Fantastic list! Now to go and fill in the holes in my reading life. I somehow skipped the classic mystery/horror/thriller stories as a teen and adult!

If you’re just starting out, I highly recommend the Hound of Baskerville! It’s a really thrilling murder mystery and a fantastic introduction to the world of Sherlock Holmes.

This is exactly what I needed!

Lovely recommendations. The Hobbit and Little Women are firm favourites of mine, Rebecca waits patiently on my shelf, and I’d love to get to The Count of Monte Cristo this year. When friends tell me they don’t like classics / are afraid to broach them, I don’t think they realise what a variety of works the term encompasses!

That's such an unfortunate view they have! Maybe challenge one to read one book with you? Rebecca, perchance? They might change their opinion!

Just finished the Count of Monte Cristo. Whew! Took three renewals on Libby to finish. I had read it previously as a child — a very abridged version that our Mom gave us. (I am now 74 by the way and catching up on all the originals) !! :)

Congratulations! I love that you're undertaking the classics- it's never too late!

I recently re-read a Secret Garden, it was fantastic. I think this one is my more recent rediscovered favorite.

Great list! I’ve read the majority of these, but a few are still TBR. I’d never considered reading Dracula until the last few years when I heard the book was much different than the pop culture version (See also Frankenstein).

Thank you! I think a lot of people discount Dracula and Frankenstein due to pop culture understandings.
